Adson is a Brazilian researcher with a strong background in computer science. He obtained his Bachelor’s degree (2018) and Master’s degree (2020) in Computer Science from the Federal University of Pelotas (UFPel), Brazil. During his Bachelor’s program, Adson served as a monitor for the Algorithms and Programming class, volunteered in a project to help elderly people use computers, and was a scholarship holder for an extension project teaching computational thinking in elementary schools in Brazil. It was also during his Bachelor’s that he first encountered machine learning, training supervised machine learning models for a text classification task. In his Master’s program, Adson joined the Video Technology Research Group (ViTech) and began studying video coding. For his master’s thesis, he developed a machine learning-based solution to accelerate the intra-mode decision process of the H266/Versatile Video Coding (VVC) standard. Currently, Adson is pursuing a PhD at UFPel/ViTech, where he is exploring the use of classic machine learning methods, such as decision trees, as well as convolutional neural networks (CNNs), to accelerate the intra-mode decision process of VVC, considering all the innovations brought by VVC in intra-prediction.
